I live in Kitchener-Waterloo with my husband and our four kids, so I understand how busy life can be. Most people who come to see me aren't looking for a complicated plan—they just want to feel better and get back to doing the things they enjoy.Pain is one of the most common reasons people book with me. I regularly help people with neck pain, back pain, headaches, shoulder tension, knee pain, sciatica, and peripheral neuropathy. My style is gentle, practical, and easygoing. I practice the Balance Method of acupuncture developed by the late Dr. Richard Tan, a system known for producing fast results while keeping treatments comfortable. I take my work seriously, but I like appointments to feel relaxed and welcoming. A little laughter is always welcome.I also co-authored Yin Yang Reset, a practical guide to Traditional Chinese Medicine food therapy. The book was written to help people apply Chinese medicine principles through simple, everyday meals and recipes. While my practice today focuses primarily on acupuncture, I still love helping people understand how food, lifestyle, and Chinese medicine can work together to support health. My goal is simple: help you feel better and make the process as easy as possible.

Your First Visit

What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?

Most people are surprised by how gentle acupuncture feels. The needles are extremely fine (like kitten whiskers), and many people find treatments relaxing. It's common to feel calm, sleepy, or deeply rested during and after treatment.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Most people are surprised by how gentle acupuncture feels. Treatments can be adjusted to your comfort level, and I can also use acupressure buttons or a laser pen when appropriate. Many people come in feeling nervous about needles and leave saying, "That was much easier than I expected."

How I Treat

I practice the Balance Method style of acupuncture, often using points away from the painful area. This means if your neck hurts, I may treat your hand, arm, or leg instead. Many people appreciate that treatments can be comfortable while still being effective.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Every person is different. Acute issues often improve more quickly, while long-standing problems typically require more treatments.A common starting point is 4–6 treatments, after which we'll reassess and decide together on the next steps.

Acupuncture for Peripheral Neuropathy in Waterloo

Peripheral neuropathy can show up in many ways. Some people experience numbness in their feet, while others notice burning, tingling, coldness, pain, or changes in sensation that make walking and daily activities more difficult. If you've been told there are limited treatment options, you're not alone. Many people seek acupuncture after other approaches haven't provided the relief they were hoping for.

How Acupuncture May Help

Peripheral neuropathy can be frustrating because symptoms often affect both comfort and quality of life.Acupuncture is unique in that treatment focuses not only on reducing symptoms such as pain, burning, tingling, numbness, and cold feet, but also on supporting healthy nerve function and nerve repair. For many people, the goal is not simply feeling less pain, but improving sensation, comfort, and confidence with daily activities.Research on acupuncture for peripheral neuropathy has shown encouraging results, with many people experiencing meaningful improvements in symptoms and function.

What Neuropathy Symptoms Do You Treat?

People commonly seek acupuncture for:• numbness in the feet or legs
• burning sensations
• tingling or "pins and needles"
• cold feet
• nerve pain
• changes in balance or sensation

What to Expect

Your first visit includes a discussion about your symptoms, health history, and treatment goals.I use a gentle style of acupuncture and often treat points away from the affected area. Many people find treatment relaxing and are surprised by how comfortable it feels.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Every case is different, but many people begin noticing improvements within the first 3 weeks of treatment. While symptoms often improve before then, nerve regeneration itself is a slower process. Changes in nerve function can take around 10 weeks to appear on medical testing.
For this reason, I typically recommend continuing treatment even if you're feeling better after 4–6 visits. A common treatment plan for peripheral neuropathy is approximately 12 weeks, after which we'll reassess your progress and decide on the next steps together.

In fact, helping people with pain is what I do most often.

You may be dealing with:• A dull ache across the low back
• Sharp pain when bending or lifting
• Stiffness first thing in the morning
• Pain after sitting too long
• Tight muscles that never seem to relax
• Difficulty standing up straight

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Acupuncture for Neck Pain in Waterloo

Neck pain is one of the most common reasons people seek acupuncture. Whether it started after sleeping awkwardly, spending long hours at a desk, an injury, stress, or simply years of tension building up, neck pain can make everyday activities uncomfortable and frustrating. Many people are surprised by how much neck pain can affect their quality of life. It may limit movement, make driving difficult, contribute to headaches, disrupt sleep, or create tension that spreads into the shoulders and upper back. Many of my patients come in after trying stretching, massage, chiropractic care, exercises, medications, or simply waiting for it to improve on its own. Acupuncture offers another approach that may help reduce pain, improve movement, and support the body's natural healing processes.

Common Symptoms of Neck Pain

Neck pain can show up in many different ways, including:• Stiffness when turning your head
• Pain looking up or down
• Muscle tension and tightness
• Pain between the neck and shoulder
• Pain that travels into the shoulder or arm
• Tension headaches
• Headaches that begin at the base of the skull
• Pain after computer work or desk work
• Discomfort while driving
• Neck pain that interferes with sleep
Whether your symptoms are recent or have been present for months or years, acupuncture may help improve comfort and mobility.

How Acupuncture May Help

Acupuncture has been used for centuries to help relieve pain and improve function.
When treating neck pain, the goal is often to reduce muscle tension, calm irritated tissues, improve circulation, and help the nervous system move away from a protective pain response.
One thing that surprises many people is that needles are not always placed directly in the neck. I practice a style of acupuncture called the Balance Method, developed by Dr. Richard Tan. This approach often uses points on the hands, arms, legs, and feet to help reduce neck pain while allowing me to assess changes in movement and comfort during treatment. Many patients notice improved range of motion or a reduction in pain during their first session. Others experience gradual improvement over a series of treatments.

What Treatment Is Like

Your first visit includes time to discuss your symptoms, health history, and treatment goals.During treatment, very fine acupuncture needles are inserted into carefully selected points. Most people find acupuncture much gentler than they expected. Many patients relax deeply or even fall asleep during treatment. The goal is not simply to cover up symptoms but to help your body function more comfortably and efficiently. Each treatment plan is individualized based on your symptoms, how long the condition has been present, and how your body responds.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Every case is different.Acute neck pain may improve quickly, sometimes within just a few treatments.Long-standing or recurring neck pain often responds more gradually and may require a longer course of care.In general, I recommend beginning with 4–6 treatments before evaluating progress. This allows enough time to see how your body responds and determine the most appropriate next steps. Many patients notice meaningful improvements in pain, movement, sleep, and daily activities during this initial phase of treatment.
